His wife and supporters say Canadian authorities who failed to nail him because the law wouldn't allow it, 'sold him out' across the border where laws are more authoritarian By Jody Emery Jodie Emery Press Release: 5-year anniversary of MARC EMERY arrest and extradition request - Mounting evidence shows Marc Emery is a political prisoner - “Prince of Pot” arrested in Vancouver by DEA and Vancouver Police - Marc Emery to be sentenced to 5 years in US federal prison on September 10th On July 29th 2005 – exactly five years ago – Vancouver Police and undercover US Drug Enforcement Administration agents arrested Marc Emery and two co-accused acting on a warrant signed in Canada but prompted by a United States extradition request. There is evidence that the Vancouver Police Department, the Canadian Justice Department, the US Department of Justice and the US DEA worked together for years, prior to the extradition request, to have Marc Emery indicted and imprisoned for his marijuana seed sales in Canada. When they were unable to secure charges against Marc in Canada in March 2003, the VPD and Canadian Justice Department sent the investigation information to the United States to get severe “conspiracy” charges laid against Marc, an unjust response to the Canadian Crown’s refusal to charge Marc for his activities in Canada. A 6,000-page Canadian “Freedom of Information” request, which was mostly redacted or withheld completely, has evidence of this collaboration and VPD officer IAN THURBER’s involvement. Vancouver Police 30-year veteran DOUG LANG explained the outsourcing efforts in a video entitled “Outsourcing Justice” The DEA, upon Marc’s arrest five years ago, issued a press release that clearly explains Marc was targeted for his political activity, marijuana law reform lobbying, and funding of the marijuana movement – which are not criminal acts: “Today's DEA arrest of Marc Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture Magazine, and the founder of a marijuana legalization group -- is a significant blow … to the marijuana legalization movement. … Hundreds of thousands of dollars of Emery's illicit profits are known to have been channeled to marijuana legalization groups active in the United States and Canada. Drug legalization lobbyists now have one less pot of money to rely on.” (Read the rest of the official press release.) Here is how it unfolded: 1) In November 2002, then-US Drug Czar John Walters held a meeting at the Vancouver Board of Trade, where Marc Emery and associates booed and heckled him as he made threats and told lies to the VPD, political leaders and media that were present. 2) Kash Heed of the Vancouver Police Drug Squad (and whom Jodie Emery ran against in the BC provincial election in May 2009) brought Walters to the “Pot Block” and was told by Walters to investigate and “get rid of” Emery 3) In early 2003, the VPD brought investigative information to the BC Crown for charges to be laid against Marc Emery for selling marijuana seeds 4) In March 2003, the Crown refused to lay charges and the information was given to the USA to obtain much harsher punishment in a foreign jurisdiction 5) Up to May 2005, the DEA investigated Marc Emery and carried out undercover work in Canada to have Marc Emery indicted on “conspiracy” charges, as he had never been to the United States 6) On July 29th, 2005 the VPD and DEA raided Marc Emery’s store and the RCMP arrested him at a medical marijuana event in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
